HOPE
This is awful! They are all miserable, all because of that little fairy trying to make things right! And he thinks it’s a fun sport to watch! Poor Helena thinks that they are all mocking her. And Hermia has lost her true love! What a mess this is!

HOPE
So is this my lesson? There are fairies in the world, playing with our lives and messing them up? I don’t think it was a fairy that wrecked my marriage. It was a secretary!

HOPE
Is that little fairy going to fix this mess? Or is he going to try and make it worse. And who is that “voice” that Puck answers to? I’d like to meet him, and give him a piece of my nhjmind.

(HOPE walks out mid stage)

HOPE
Come out here, Oberon, King of the fairies, if you dare. I have a few things to tell you!!

WISDOM
That would not be a good idea.

HOPE
I dare you! Come out! And you too, Puck! You interfering little twirp! You come out here now! You need to fix this mess!

WISDOM
How would you have them fix it?

HOPE
Well, first I would put an antidote in Lysander’s eyes, so that he will be in love with Hermia again.

WISDOM
And what about Demetrius?

HOPE
Of course, he should receive the antidote too. (pause) I think. I guess that would not make things better, would it?

WISDOM
There would be a battle to the death for Hermia.

HOPE
And poor Helena. She does love Demetrius so much. But if I could just talk to her for a moment, I’m sure I could talk some sense into her.

WISDOM
It is not easy to talk someone out of love.

HOPE
It can’t be that hard. I have talked myself out of love with Ronnie.

WISDOM
Have you?

HOPE
I… uh… I just can’t allow myself to love him. It makes me too… vulnerable.

WISDOM
Being vulnerable is a part of love.

HOPE
It is. And I will not be vulnerable with Ronnie again. That is my choice.

WISDOM
Love is a choice.

HOPE
Yes it is. I know that now. It is my choice not to love Ronnie. I can forget him.

WISDOM
You seem like a strong person. I’m sure you can.

HOPE
Why did he do that to me? He deserves to be punished.

WISDOM
Here comes Sir Richard. Do you think he will find the path, or should he die for his mistake?

HOPE
The Great King will have mercy! I hope.
