Scene 7

HOPE
Sir Richard is going to find out why the maiden is out in the woods.

WISDOM
There are shadows, and dark places in the woods. The Great King has warned Richard to stay on the path.

HOPE
But what about the maiden. She seems to be doing fine in the woods.

WISDOM
Things are not always as they appear.

HOPE
Is this a Little Red Riding Hood story? Stay on the path like a good girl… He’s just curious. I would be too. A few steps off the path couldn’t harm him.

WISDOM
A few steps can lead to many.

HOPE
Okay, okay… I just thought I’d left the old “stay on the path” stories behind in kindergarten. But what about the maiden? Surely if a young maiden can live in the woods, it can’t be that bad. Sir Richard will help her. “The knight rescues the maiden” Maybe the maiden will rescue Sir Richard and add some “spice” to his life.

WISDOM
With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.

HOPE
The maiden is leading him astray?! It was just a few steps off the path.

WISDOM
Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.

HOPE
She seems so innocent. It can’t be. Unless….

WISDOM
There is yet another story unfolding.

HOPE
Another story?

WISDOM
The Greatest Romance there ever was.

HOPE
Tell me more.

WISDOM
There once was an ordinary woman named Isabel, who was attacked by thieves on her way home from the market.

HOPE
Did they take everything she had bought?

WISDOM
They took everything they could.

HOPE
Oh.

WISDOM
But meanwhile there was this man, a handsome man, I call the Prince of Light. … well, I’ll let you see for yourself. Look.
